Three candidate domains, peer review notes, and final selection for my semester project website.
*Working title for my project: StudyScape — a guide to quiet & aesthetic study spots around campus.*
Tip: before registering, check availability & history on your registrar (e.g., Namecheap/Google Domains) and confirm social handles.
I reviewed the three options with my friend. We liked studyscape.app for being short, memorable, and directly connected to a modern app-like product. campusstudyspots.com was the most descriptive and SEO-friendly, but felt long. studyscapehq.com worked as a .com backup, though the “hq” suffix sounded slightly corporate for a student-facing guide. We also checked for clarity when spoken aloud (no hyphens, easy spelling) and potential expansion beyond a single campus.
We considered future use cases: printable posters/QR codes around campus, word-of-mouth sharing, and possible mobile PWA packaging. A shorter, brandable domain fits all of these. We also talked about avoiding ambiguous letters (like 0/O) and ensuring the name doesn't box the project into one university if it grows.
My preferred domain is studyscape.app. It's concise, memorable, and communicates that this is a tool rather than a static blog. The .app TLD is HTTPS-only, which reinforces security by default. The name supports future expansion to other universities while staying brandable for social handles and print materials.
